CHS Jazz Band Requirements

CHS Jazz Band

Participation & Audition Requirements

  1. Successful audition
based on the audition material (see excerpts for various instruments)

  2. Registration through guidance
.  Must take the class for graduation credits and grades.  If you’re not on my roster you’re not registered.

  3. Attendance is mandatory
at Monday evening rehearsals (classes).  While we can work with you (around) having to be absent for a school-sanctioned event such as an athletic competition or field trip, any other absentees will not be tolerated and will affect the overall class grade.  Because you are under 18, your parents must be the ones contacting me to request an absence of any kind.  Last minute notifications by students will not be accepted and will be marked as unexcused.  Three (3) unexcused absences will result in your being removed from the class.

  4. Jazz Band Members are assigned a folder of jazz charts
and are expected to practice them and get the help they need with them so they are prepared for rehearsal each week.  Students not keeping up will eventually be dismissed from the group and most likely replaced by another student.

  5. Students are responsible for their assigned folders,
which will be turned-in at the end of the semester.  Students will be charged a fee of $5 per missing selection from their folder if missing.  Music is all original (not copies) and must be kept flat and in nice shape.  Use a pencil only to mark parts.

  6. Grading:
Attendance is the largest part of the grade in a performing ensemble, but short, individual  performance tests will be given once per marking period.
