Our goal as a music department is to continue an established tradition of excellence while offering new and exciting opportunities for students. We want to expand their world through music. Every concert, event, trip and contests is specifically designed with education as the main purpose. We expand their horizons through music education. We want them to look back on their days in our program and be able to say, "Because of music I...", and to have had experiences and knowledge that they wouldn't have had otherwise.
Mrs. Stasi Culbertson graduated from neighboring Highland High School where she was very involved in music leading the Concert Choir, Women's Ensemble, Show Choir and Color Guard. She was also highly involved in theater performing in the plays and musicals. She also competed in Solo and Ensemble contests all four years of high school earning Superior and Excellent ratings. After High School, Mrs. Culbertson attended Otterbein University. There she completed her undergraduate degree in Music Education while performing with the Women's Choir and Concert Choirs. During her time in Concert Choir she got to travel throughout the U.S, Canada, and also to Switzerland and France. While in college Mrs. Culbertson worked as an ABA therapist to children with Autism. She continued to do that after graduation and then worked as a substitute teacher while offering private lessons.
Mrs. Culbertson has been teaching in the Centerburg Schools since 2012. She teaches 6th- 12th Grade choirs, middle school General Music, and Intervention. She also co-directs the school musicals and helps with the technical direction of other theater productions. She also serves as a Mentor as part of the Sources of Strength program at school.
Mrs. Culbertson loves music and helping students to become independent music makers. Her goal is for students to be able to look back on their time in the music program and to be able to say, "Because of music I..." and be able to share experiences and opportunities they've had or people they've met that they would not have without music. One of her favorite things is that she gets to see some students the very first day they walk into her room in 6th grade until their very last day walking out as a senior and all of the adventures and memoiries shared over those 7 years.
When she's not at school Mrs. Culbertson enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons, as well as her other family members, cooking, eating, making music with her church family, reading and exploring new places.
